It takes almost zero prep beforehand, so you can easily make it look like you had this planned the whole time, and definitely intended to end the lesson with charades.
How to Prep
Literally all you need to do is write (or think of - you probably don't even need to write it down) a list of current vocab words you want students to review. They need to be vocab words that students can act out - verbs are gonna be your best bet.
How to Play
Divide the class into two teams.Choose one
Tell them when to start and the first team who guesses the word gets a point.
You can let kids pick the next volunteer, you can choose from who wants to go next, or you can choose kids in the order they're sitting so everyone gets a turn to act (whether they want it or not).
Go with your gut and do whatever works best with your group of students.
Some Tips
Some behavior management ground rules you might want to set - no screaming. Kids can get super into games like this and scream every vocab word they can think of.The class next door doesn't need to hear Spanish words being screamed.
Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. You've got a fun review game that students are engaged with, they're busy up until the bell rings, and it took only a few seconds of prep from you to think of recent vocab words.
Victory.
