A Simple Project Idea Students Will Actually Enjoy: Spanish-speaking Countries

How do you teach your students about allllll of the Spanish-speaking countries and cultures around the world?

Let them do the research and present to the class!

I recommend making sure every student is assigned a different country (or city if you have more than 21 students in your class), so that every presentation is unique. 

Basic concept for this project

Each student is assigned a Spanish-speaking country to research and present to the class. 

Students are given a specific list of what information to find, they create a PowerPoint or Google Slides with this information and then present their country to the class in about 3-5 minutes.

That way every student can learn about all Spanish-speaking countries!

Presentation Requirement Ideas

These requirements are some I include for students' presentations:

• location of the country/city on a map
• geography
• flag
• population
• popular food dishes
• history
• tourist attractions

Have students include something they find out that interests them!

Pro Tips

I recommend making sure every student is assigned a different country (or city if you have more than 21 students in your class), so that every presentation is unique. 

I allow 2 days for research and PowerPoint creation, and then presentations take an additional 2-3 days, depending on how many students are in the class. 

I give students a "listening activity" that counts as a classwork grade, where they have to write down 2 interesting facts from each of the other presentations. This keeps everyone more focused when they aren't presenting. 

When to do this project

Students will be researching and presenting in English, so they can actually do this at any point in their language journey. 

I use this project at the end of Spanish 2, but a Spanish 1 class could do it just as easily, as could any upper-level class

It would also make an excellent sub plan (since it's entirely in English) if you're going to be out for a few days - students can do their presentations when you get back!
